Welcome to the website of ADRIAN FREER.
I am a fly fisherman who fishes the large Midlands reservoirs and also an author, journalist and angling researcher/historian. I write books on reservoir fly fishing, fly patterns, religious topics, children's stories and contemporary poetry.
I also contribute articles for FlyFishing & FlyTying, Flydresser (the journal of The Flydressers' Guild) and in the past Total FlyFisher magazine.
On my website you will find details of my books, my biography, a page with recent news and future events, and how you can contact me.
I have included pages which show the dressings of some of my most successful fly patterns (do try them), a photo gallery of my fishing exploits, some articles which I hope will help you catch a few more trout, some technical information, a couple of lighthearted 'fun' quizzes, a puzzle - and there are also a few recipes to help you enjoy your catch.
There are some links to other websites that you might find interesting and details about the Angling Trust, an organization that all anglers should consider supporting.

My most recently published fishing book is Reservoir Trout Autopsies.
I have long held an interest in the legendary Dr Bell of Wrington (see the Dr Bell page). one of the earliest pioneers of reservoir fly fishing, which led me to write two books about him: Dr Bell of Wrington: Pioneer of Reservoir Fly Fishing (Welford Court Press, 2019) and Dr Bell's Trout Flies: The Stillwater Nymph Patterns of Dr Bell of Wrington (Coch y Bonddu Books, 2020). They have been published and are available to purchase now. For further details click on the links.

In my personal life I am a committed Christian who is involved in local church activities, conducting Bible studies, planning church events and occasional preaching duties.
If we meet on the reservoir bank do come up and say 'Hello'. We will be able to discuss how to (hopefully) catch a few more fish and perhaps swap a couple of flies.
Tight lines in the meantime!

"It is a thoroughly objective and honest work, packed with useful information on its subject. The gospel is clearly presented. Everyone should read this thoughtful, sensible, practical, Scriptural work."

Burial or Cremation for Christians?
"Mr Freer has sought to address the main questions and, in my opinion, does so graciously yet firmly. The subject ... is one that Christians should ponder."
Evangelical Times
Quiet Time for Christians
"Sound advice is given on how to read the Bible … neither is prayer overlooked since this is part of the daily recommended routine. Having read this book for review purposes, it will be studied again so as to assimilate its many worthwhile points."
British Church Newspaper
Quiet Time for Christians
"The subject is a vital and neglected one. The book is written by a wise layman in layman’s terms for laymen, precisely suitable for everyone. The book is practical and gentle. It is suitable for all Christians of all ages and levels. The book is timely and could do a lot of good."
English Churchman
