He is the author of books on reservoir fly fishing, fly dressing, religious topics, children's stories and poetry. He also contributes of articles for FlyFishing & FlyTying and Flydresser (the journal of the Flydressers' Guild), and formerly Total Flyfisher magazine.
Adrian Freer is author of the highly acclaimed Successful Reservoir Fly Fishing Techniques: A Trout Angler's Guide to Improved Catches (Crowood Press), Reservoir Trout Flies: An Angler's Guide to Successful Fly Patterns (Crowood Press), Burial or Cremation for Christians? (EP Books), A Biblical Defence of the Sport of Angling (Welford Court Press), Quiet Time for Christians (Welford Court Press) and other books. His latest angling book is Reservoir Trout Autopsies: Valauble Information Straight form the Fish's Mouth (Welford Court Press).
In the past Adrian has given illustrated slideshow talks to fly fishing clubs.
Adrian's principal interests include reservoir fly fishing and fly tying, church responsibilities, music (classical and modern jazz), foreign travel and writing.
His angling career started in the 1950s, in the days when the Leicester Canal was producing its memorable catches, and he caught his first trout on an artificial fly from Eyebrook Reservoir in the early 1960s. Initially, Adrian was principally a coarse fish angler and he participated in numerous matches and also co-managed two private fishing clubs. Subsequently, however, he started to concentrate on fly fishing and for the last thirty years he has fished almost exclusively for trout.
Adrian has been a long-standing member of the Anglers' Conservation Association (now merged into The Angling Trust) and, as well as being a dedicated fly fisherman and fly tyer, he also has a keen interest in entomology and angling history.
He was (until retirement) part of the leadership team of Gaulby Reformed Evangelical Anglican Fellowship (one of the remaining parishes in Leicestershire which upheld the doctrines of the English Reformers). He is still involved in ministry as preacher, Bible study leader and events planner. The annual Gaulby Festival of Grace was one of the most significant rural parish events in the county of Leicestershire.
