Quiet Time for Christians: A Practical Guide to Daily Bible Reading and Prayer

Quiet Time for Christians: A Practical Guide to Daily Bible Reading and Prayer

Adrian V W Freer

ISBN: 978-1798995303

Setting aside a regular time each day to read God’s Word and have a time of prayer is one of the most valuable disciplines for any Christian if they are to have a closer walk with their Saviour.
It is an indisputable fact that those who develop this routine become stronger Christians, have a deeper faith, are less liable to succumb to temptation, are more likely to make the right decisions in life, and they will persevere to the end in their Christian walk. In so doing they will lead happier, contented and more fulfilled lives. That being the case all Christians should surely want to read their Bible on a daily basis.
The aim of this book is twofold: firstly to assist those who already have a quiet time to make it more profitable and productive, and secondly to persuade those who do not as yet have a regular time alone with God to embark on the rewarding and lifelong journey of discovering the glorious truths recorded in God’s Word.

The True Profession of the Gospel

Lee Gatiss

ISBN-13: 978-0946307746

"Whilst the Calvinistic doctrines were the language of our pulpits as well as of our Articles, the Reformation made a swift and extensive progress. But ever since our Articles and our pulpits have been at variance, the Reformation has been at a stand." (Augustus Montague Toplady)

At every Coronation for over three hundred years, British Monarchs have promised to maintain, "the true profession of the gospel... the Protestant Reformed religion." At a time when many Evangelicals and Anglicans are questioning their theology and re-thinking their identity, it is more important than ever for us to remember this gospel of sovereign grace. This book shows how God has used the Reformed gospel of 'grace alone' to revitalise churches riddled with immorality and flagging in meaning and purpose. With a focus on hymn-writer and theologian Augustus Toplady, it retells the story of Reformation and Revival for a new generation looking to draw strength from its roots. "Toplady represented a strand of Anglicanism which sought to stand in continuity with both the Church of England's Reformation roots and the more precise articulation of Reformed Orthodoxy. Lee Gatiss does a fine job of recovering this aspect of Toplady for today." (Carl Trueman, Westminster Theological Seminary)

"Readers will find this study at once encouraging and challenging. It is a strong example of the way in which historical writing can be both responsible and transparently useful for the church today." (Garry Williams, The John Owen Centre, London).

Lee Gatiss is a graduate of New College (Oxford), Oak Hill (London) and Westminster Seminary (Philadelphia), and has worked for churches in Oxford, Kettering and London. He and his family live in Cambridge where he is researching seventeenth century biblical interpretation.

Elijah
People in the Bible - Elijah: Man of fire, Man of faith

John Cheeseman

ISBN-13: 978-1846252709

When Elijah lived in Israel in 900 BC, truth was being compromised and the people had departed from the worship of the one true God. It was a multi-faith society. There was immorality at the highest level. Toleration trumped truth. True prophets were being persecuted. It was much like Western society today. What can Christians do in such a spiritual and moral climate? Elijah is our great example and inspiration as we dare to contend for the truth, even taking on the religious establishment if necessary. What could be more timely or relevant for the Christian church at the present time?

John Cheeseman studied classics at Oxford University before training for pastoral ministry at Trinity College, Bristol. He has served in churches all over the South-East of England, most recently at Holy Trinity, Eastbourne. He is now concentrating on an itinerant ministry of Bible teaching.

Burial or Cremation for Christians? - A Biblical Pattern for Funerals

Adrian V W Freer

ISBN-13: 978-1783970254
There appears to be a dearth of clear Biblical teaching at the present time on the subject of whether Christians should be buried or cremated. Whether this is because death and its surrounding issues is an off limit subject, or if it is in order not to unsettle those who have already made (unalterable) choices about the burial or cremation of their loved ones, is unclear. Nevertheless the fact remains that when decisions have to be made many folk are unsure of what is right. Hurried decisions are not always the same as those that would have been made if the matter had been considered under less stressful circumstances.

That being the case it seemed prudent to address the issue by examining what the Bible has to say in order that funerals are conducted in the most Scriptural manner.

  • The body and soul and their eternal destination

  • Accounts of burial in the Bible

  • The how and where of burial

  • Burning in the Bible

  • Biblical teaching about eternal matters

  • Contemporary views on burial and cremation

  • Conclusions to be drawn

Includes: 29 Illustrations, 1 Map and 1 Table

Adrian Freer is involved in the ministry of the Gaulby Reformed Evangelical Anglican Fellowship as an occasional preacher, Bible study leader and events planner.
